Courses
The teaching of Jewish Philosophy at the public school system has gone through quite a few revolutions and transformations in recent years. These changes involve rethinking of the goals behind teaching Jewish subjects to public school pupils. Following this process of rethinking quite a few new programs have been written, which are more eclectic in nature and more teacher and pupil friendly. These new programs, which are gradually implemented in schools, give rise to new questions and challenges.
The Primary objective of the course is to expose students to the major trends in Jewish Philosophy teaching in the public education system today. Through learning basic hermeneutic and didactic concepts, the student will develop and enhance his or her bank and tools of considerations for teaching Jewish Philosophy. Through working with selected chapters from the curriculum, certain hermeneutic and didactic considerations and dilemmas will be revealed relating to the teacher’s place between the text and the pupil, the text’s status of the text and the state of the student as a interpreter and an educated person
